The year is 1948 and World War II has been over for three years. GIs have returned home and new businesses are springing up across America. The war proved the value of military aviation and the commercial aviation market is flourishing.
The company founders identify the need for a strong but lightweight material to be used in the manufacture and repair of aircraft. They developed and patented a method of manufacture for lightweight aluminum material in the shape of honeycomb and Honeycomb Company of America is born in Bridgeport, CT.
Now in its eighth decade of continuous operation and relocated to Sarasota, FL with a 12-acre facility comprising 12 buildings totaling 150,000 sq/ft, the company has become a premier supplier of bonded aerostructures for both military and commercial aircraft. Honeycomb is now recognized as a leader in the manufacture of bonded metal-to-metal, metal-to-honeycomb, and honeycomb to epoxy-composite assemblies for fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
